Hi Johanna,

You wrote,
I wonder what happens to the subconscious mind when we cross over?

“Subconscious” only refers to things we have in our mind that are not easily accessible; they don’t easily come into the awareness where we normally can look at them and think about them. It isn’t a special part of the mind. So we might say that when we forget someone’s name, it’s in the subconscious. Later, it may come to us suddenly.

Repressed memories are said to be in the subconscious because the part of the mind that protects us from discomfort is keeping those memories hidden. They’re there, but just not easily accessible.

We are spiritual beings, always. The Earth plane is just another spiritual plane, although it’s unusual because it contains people of all spiritual levels mingling together. It’s the nursery, where we develop our minds for later spiritual growth. When we stop using a body, at death, the mind doesn’t change. It’s the same as it was. We just don’t use the body for experiences. Those memories we can’t access easily are still there, and still can’t be accessed easily. In other words, whatever you have programmed for your mind, whether it’s in the subconscious or not, is still exactly the same. You are the same person, just not using the temporary shell you used when on the Earth plane vibration.

Then, over time, with this new perspective of being on the next plane of life and being taught or counseled by people there, you change your mind—it grows just as it’s growing on the Earth plane, at the same pace, in the same way.

Eventually, we grow spiritually (or psychologically if you will) to the point where we can experience the whole eternal self we are, including the past lives we had and the things that were not clear or hidden in the mind. But it’s all a matter of growing and change in the mind.

If we don't take it with us, how is spiritual evolution happening and why? Would it not be unnecessary to evolve if nothing bothered us any longer?

You’re thinking of yourself and the mind as the what you have now. That’s just a blip on the radar screen of who you are and who you’ll become. Yes, we learn in the crucible of the Earth plane because of its dramatic obstacles and conflicts. But we may then incarnate back onto the Earth plane to have more conflicts, or we may incarnate onto another plane that has similar conflicts. And we can learn without the obstacles and conflicts. Spiritually, we have no limits on our evolution. We will continue to evolve through eternity in ways we could never envision. Imagine unconditional love. That means when a stranger comes into town, you have the same love as you have for your parents or your children, immediately, without thinking about whether you love that stranger. That’s far from where we are in our spiritual development now. Then realize that our evolution from where we are now to that point is just a footstep ahead, and the growth in spirit we could never envision now that comes after that footstep of development is a million miles of footsteps. That’s eternity. We can’t envision what our spiritual growth will be like, but we will continue to grow.

on the other side, I can only imagine this process taking a whole different meaning or process?

Yes, we will have a different perspective in a different land with different people. However, we will still be the mind we are now, subconscious and conscious. We will grow with that new perspective, just as we would grow on the Earth plane if we moved to a different culture with customs and mores quite foreign to us. It would happen over time. The way we grow and develop now is exactly the same as we will grow and develop on the next planes of life, through eternity. We won’t suddenly become something. We will grow gradually.

Love and peace, Craig
