Yes, very pointedly. Sitters in Leslie Flint seances actually asked those in spirit who were speaking about whether the Earth was going to end in calamity. They said definitely not. The dire predictions are just mythology. There have been over 400 such dire predictions with dates since the first century. I was doing some research recently and ran across a fascinating list of natural disasters: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Natural_disaster. The Bubonic Plague of the fourteenth century killed over half of the population. Now that's a disaster.

Today's disasters are terrible, but they really aren't on the scale we've seen in the past.
